Terms of Service
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Hence ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
2. Description of Service
Hence is a vehicle management application that helps users track fuel expenses, maintenance records, trips, expenses, documents, and parking spots. The App provides tools for calculating fuel economy, managing maintenance schedules, and organizing vehicle-related documents.
3. Account Registration
3.1. You may create an account using your phone number (OTP verification), email address, Google account, or Apple ID.
3.2. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.
3.3. You must provide accurate and complete information during registration. You agree to update your information to keep it current.
3.4. You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account and use the App.
4. User Responsibilities
4.1. Data Accuracy: You are solely responsible for the accuracy of all data you enter, including vehicle specifications, odometer readings, fuel entries, maintenance records, and financial transactions. The App performs calculations (fuel economy, costs, mileage deductions) based on user-entered data and does not independently verify this information.
4.2. Lawful Use: You agree to use the App only for lawful purposes and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
4.3. Account Security: You must notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
4.4. Prohibited Activities: You may not:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Use the App for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our servers or databases
- Distribute, sell, or sublicense the App or its content
- Use automated tools to access or scrape the App
5. Data Storage and Sync
5.1. The App stores records and document images locally. Firebase Firestore backs up vehicle records, and Firebase Storage backs up supported receipt, document, and parking images.
5.2. Local record entry is available offline. Cloud sync and online services require connectivity.
5.3. Backups may be incomplete when transfers fail, and sync can replace records during conflicts. Firebase backup does not currently include saved locations or favorite stations. Keep exports and original attachments for records you need to preserve.
5.4. We are not responsible for data loss resulting from device failure, App uninstallation, or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
6. Third-Party Services
6.1. The App integrates with the following third-party services:
- Firebase (Google): Authentication and cloud data storage
- Google Sign-In: OAuth 2.0 authentication
- Apple Sign-In: Apple's authentication system
- Apple Maps: Location services and map display
- Google Maps Platform: Maps, place search, route planning, and road snapping
- mypetrolprice.com: Fuel-price lookup using a city name
- Apple App Store: Subscription billing and purchase status
- OpenAI, through Hence's backend: Optional image extraction
6.2. Optional AI Features: Scanned images are processed through Hence's backend by OpenAI. No user-supplied API key is required. AI document extraction requires an account; local document capture and attachment do not. If AI is declined or unavailable, documents fall back to manual entry. Receipt and RC-card scanners offer on-device OCR where available. Review extracted values before saving. Provider retention and local/cloud attachment storage are described in the Privacy Policy.
6.3. Your use of third-party services is subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party service providers.
7. Subscriptions and Payments
7.1. Hence Pro: The App offers an optional auto-renewable subscription called "Hence Pro" that unlocks premium features and higher usage limits.
7.2. Plans and Pricing: Hence Pro is available as a Monthly plan (₹99 per month) or a Yearly plan (₹799 per year). Prices are listed in Indian Rupees (INR) and may vary by region, currency, and App Store storefront. The exact price is always displayed in the App and on the App Store before you subscribe.
7.3. Billing: Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. All subscription purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store; we do not collect your payment card details. We process account-linked product and transaction identifiers, signed transactions, expiration dates, and subscription status through our backend to verify access and limits.
7.4. Auto-Renewal: Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
7.5. Managing and Cancelling: You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your App Store account settings (Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on your device). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access to premium features until then.
7.6. Refunds: Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. To request a refund, contact Apple Support or visit reportaproblem.apple.com. We are unable to issue refunds directly for purchases made through the App Store.
7.7. Free Tier: The App remains functional without a subscription. Free accounts have daily limits on AI-powered features (such as receipt and document scanning) and map-related features (such as nearby search and route planning). Hence Pro provides higher limits, which are shown in the App and may include daily and monthly caps.
7.8. Price Changes: We may change subscription prices from time to time. If the price of your subscription increases, you will be notified in accordance with App Store rules, and where required, your consent will be obtained before the new price applies to your renewal.
8. Intellectual Property
8.1. The App, including its design, code, graphics, logos, and content, is owned by Hence and is protected by intellectual property laws.
8.2. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes.
8.3. All vehicle data, documents, and content you enter into the App remain your property.
9. Disclaimers
9.1. The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
9.2. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
9.3. Financial Calculations: Fuel economy, expense totals, mileage deductions, and other calculations provided by the App are for informational purposes only and should not be relied upon as financial, tax, or legal advice. Consult a qualified professional for such matters.
9.4. Maintenance Reminders: Maintenance schedule reminders are based on user-entered intervals and do not replace professional vehicle inspection or manufacturer recommendations.
10. Limitation of Liability
10.1. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hence and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App.
10.2. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
11. Account Termination
11.1. You may request account deletion through Profile > Delete Account. Deletion requests removal of the Firebase identity, records, and associated backups. Cleanup can require retry or support follow-up if a service fails; iCloud copies made by earlier builds and cached preferences may remain as described in the Privacy Policy. Deleting your account does not cancel your App Store subscription. Manage or cancel it separately in your App Store account settings.
11.2. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms.
11.3. Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. You may export your data before termination using the App's export functionality.
12. Changes to Terms
12.1. We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the App or via email.
12.2. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in India.
